Characteristics of Coaching

There are several definitions of coaching, each of which provides additional insight.
At Cadran, we consider coaching to be the art of supporting a group or a person in opening up their field of consciousness and their field of action.

Individual coaching takes place in the form of a private interview, between the coach and the coachee, face to face, video or audio.
Collective coaching takes place in the form of group workshops, sometimes divided into sub-groups, led by one or more coaches. We distinguish between group coaching, which brings together people from different backgrounds, and team coaching, which brings together members of a collective united by the same goal.
Organizational coaching is a combination of collective coaching and individual coaching aimed at a broad and lasting impact on several layers of the organization.

In consulting, the consultant gives advice. He considers that he knows the right answer to the situation because he is an expert in his field.
In coaching, the coach does not give advice. He can make suggestions but not in the form of advice, because he wants the client to make the decision that is best for him. The coach will therefore mainly help the client to unlock his decision-making and his passage to action.

Mentoring is support that combines coaching and consulting.

A training is a transfer of knowledge or know-how, in one direction, from the trainer to the trainee.
Coaching is a partnership that combines the expertise of the coachee (in relation to his situation and in his profession) and the expertise of the coach (in relation to the process of opening up consciousness and the field of action).

Therapy aims to restore a person to a “normal” and healthy state.
Coaching aims to achieve a higher state of openness of consciousness and scope.

There are four types of individual coaching.
– Coaching of the person: when the objective only engages the coachee (motivation, stress management, time and priority management …)
– Relationship coaching: when the objective is to establish or restore a healthy and trusting relationship with someone else
– Inter-relationship coaching: when the objective is to establish or restore a group dynamic and which involves themes such as inspiring leadership, charisma; managing conflicts between different people
– Strategic coaching: when the objective is to have a clear vision and calm decision-making in the face of the organization’s strategic issues falling under its responsibility.

Benefits of coaching with CADRAN

Several studies have calculated the average return on investment of coaching. In the case of executive coaching such as the Cadran practice, the return on investment is between 500% and 700% (see study McGovern et al., 2001).

The coach does not commit to the result because the latter is the responsibility of the coachee who, in the last resort, is the one who implements the means for this success, as identified during the coaching.
For his part, the coach has a commitment to resources framed by a very rigorous code of ethics to support the coachee in identifying and then implementing the means for success.

The quality of coaching is based on two criteria:
– the professionalism of the coach, of which you can assure yourself by the quality of his training and the testimonials left by his former clients,
– the confidence that the coach inspires in you because this confidence is one of the keys to the success of your coaching.

Coaching ethics

Cadran’s coaches undertake to keep the content of sessions strictly confidential.
Except in the case where the coachee communicates publicly on the fact that he has engaged in coaching with Cadran (in particular through his testimony on social networks or on our site), we keep the names of our coachees confidential and only mention the name of the company for which he works. During an intervention that involves several coaches from the Cadran team, exchanges of information are possible between the coaches involved because confidentiality applies with respect to the outside of the collective of coaches concerned.

Only the commercial data of our coachees are kept by Cadran (last name, first name, email, company, type of contract) so as to be able to follow up on former customers. Each coach can be led to take notes on the content of the discussions with the coachee. This data is stored either in handwritten or encrypted form on the coach’s computer.

Financial conditions

Individual coaching is payable in advance
Collective and organizational coaching is billed 50% on order and 50% on completion

Individual coaching sessions not consumed are fully reimbursed.
Collective and organizational coachings canceled before their start will be charged 50% for preparation. If they are interrupted during the animation, the animations not performed will be reimbursed in proportion to the remaining 50%.

The organization of coaching

Individual coaching generally takes place over 10 sessions. Some specific packages offer a larger number of sessions.

A coaching cycle generally lasts between 3 months and 1 year, depending on the themes chosen. Some coaching, such as onboarding coaching, lasts 18 months.

At the end of each session, you define with the coach the date of the next one.
The first sessions are generally more frequent (for example every week or fortnight), then regular (often monthly) and the last are more spaced (2 or 3 months) in order to gradually support your independence.

A session does not have a fixed course. It may be variable only the topic addressed and the progress of your coaching.
Often, the session will begin with a progress report from the previous session, then expand on a topic, and end with the development of an action plan.

The complete cycle of coaching often has the following structure. The first session is to refine your goal and outcome indicators. The last session aims to take stock of the progress made and define the path to continue without the coach. All intermediate sessions are about taking steps towards your goal.

The role of the CADRAN agent

The role of Cadran’s agent, like an artist’s or athlete’s agent, is to represent Cadran’s coaches in all situations except during coaching. Its mission is broad. It includes in particular public relations, branding, identification of needs, development of partnerships and their consolidation, promotion and animation on social and off-line networks, support for prospects, development and then monitoring contracts, monitoring the quality of customer relations and their satisfaction, etc.

Coaching tools

Coaching is a discipline rich in a hundred tools from various disciplines. Among these tools, the best known is questioning aimed at opening your consciousness. The coach will not teach you these tools because your goal is not to become a coach. The art of the coach is to choose the tool or question that, in the path to your goal, will have the most positive impact on you at any given time, then choose another when the time comes. In the end, the coach uses the selection of tools and questions that are most suitable for you.

The coach chooses the questions that promote your thinking and open your awareness.
In this perspective, the coach will ask very few factual questions to which you have easy answers. It will seek to lead you to questions that you are less used to and that will prompt you to explore outside your quick thinking zone.

Collective coaching

There is no limit to the number of participants in group coaching. Collective coaching can bring together 100, 1000, 10,000 people. However, as soon as the group is larger than 10 people, the animation will include times in plenary assembly and other times in sub-groups of 6-8 people.

We distinguish two categories of collective. One who is united by a common goal, achievable only through the involvement of each member of the collective, beyond the duration of the coaching. We speak then of a “team”. The one who is only during the coaching time, by an interest in a given topic. We speak then of a “group”. Usually, a team is made up of people from the same organization. A team can also bring together people from various organizations but united by a common project through a partnership agreement or other. Conversely, in general a group brings together people from different organizations, or from different departments in the same organization, who will have little or no interaction after coaching.

Executive Committee coaching is a particular team coach. Indeed, this coaching consists in supporting management, during its committees, to establish or re-establish mutual trust, open and effective communication, and enriched decision-making.

We call “cascading” the action of disseminating to several levels of an organization an approach adopted at a higher level. For example, a Management Committee, after having initiated a strategic reflection at its level, wishes to involve several other levels of the organization in this process. In this case, Cadran designs, organizes and then facilitates different coaching formats to achieve the participation objective selected. Depending on the situation and the number of people concerned, Cadran will offer a range of formats, of increasing size, ranging from training in full assembly, to individual support, including animation in small groups or the establishment of pairs, trinomials or mentoring.
